Portrait of a Long-nose Monkey

Nature has composed some strange creatures. The long-nosed monkey is a good example of this and shows me the beauty of ugliness. We learn to view everything in proportions, in relationship, in balance.

The way nature arranges things seldom follows the rules and you could call the long-nosed monkey a dissonant. I often think things unbalanced if they may not be out of balance.

With the long-nosed monkey, nature has apparently not tried to find a balance that meets our standards of ethics and beauty: not only do they have a curious appearance, they also eat poisonous leaves which, during the digestive process, gives them a swollen belly.

We leren alles in proporties zien, in verhouding, in evenwicht. De vlakverdeling in de natuur is zelden volgens die normen en bij de neusaap kun je spreken van een dissonant.
Ik vind het vaak onevenwichtig als iets niet uit evenwicht mag zijn.

De natuur lijkt bij de neusaap geen evenwicht te hebben gezocht volgens onze normen van ethiek en schoonheid: naast hun merkwaardige uiterlijk eten ze giftige bladeren waardoor ze een opgeblazen buik hebben vanwege het verteringsproces”.
