“Zwischen Strom und Gestein”

Between River and Rock in Rilke’s Works

Rainer Maria Rilke was one of the most important lyrical poets in the German language. For some of the period in which he lived in Paris, he was personal secretary to Auguste Rodin. Rilke wrote one novel: “Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge” (the notes of Malte Laurids Brigge).

The title of the work “Zwischen Strom und Gestein”  is taken from a German-Dutch anthology published in 1980. I have taken the following words from this anthology to use in this painting:

REQUIEM – RAINER MARIA RILKE – WOUDSKELETTEN – TIEFE – BRON – REINES – DÄMMERN – WIEDERKEHR – SCHITTEREND – DWAALSPOOR – SCHÖNSTER – GRÄBERN – O NIMM MIR NICHT – HEIMWEH – KRAFT – LIED

Rainer Maria Rilke was een van de belangrijkste lyrische dichters in de Duitse taal. Gedurende de periode dat hij in Parijs leefde, was hij ook een tijd persoonlijk secretaris van Auguste Rodin en schreef hij brieven over het werk van Cézanne.  Rainer Maria Rilke heeft één roman geschreven “Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge” (De aantekeningen van Malte Laurids Brigge).

De titel van het werk “Zwischen Strom und Gestein”  is naar een Duits-Nederlandse bloemlezing, uitgegeven in 1980. De volgende woorden heb ik daaruit in het schilderij verwerkt:
